Lilienfeld and Rubin (March 2000)1 recently estimated thenmortality rates from primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH) in thenUnited States during the years 1979 through 1996 using thenmortality database maintained by the Centers for Disease Controlnand Prevention (CDC; http://wonder.cdc.gov). Their major findingnwas increased mortality rates from PPH since 1979, especiallynamong infants and elderly black women. I address two issues in thisnletter.
