We appreciate the opportunity to respond to the comments of Dr. Petersen and Dr. Hansen (Petersen and Hansen, 2011) and to further elaborate on the modes and transport pathways of strongly sorbing pesticides such as glyphosate and pendimethalin. Please find our response to the specific comments of Petersen and Hansen (2011) (marked in Italics) outlined below. Petersen and Hansen (2011) state that "Nevertheless, sorption and modes of transport of glyphosate most likely vary a lot within the drained area which makes it very complicated to discuss leaching mechanism. Covariation of concentration of the two pesticides observed in few flow events (Fig. 4) cannot be taken as evidence for identical transport pathways. Hence the observed tailing on graphs showing pesticide concentration versus time (Fig. 5C and D) could be an effect of field scale heterogeneity."
