Systematic checks are required to provide safety and reliability in equipment during use, which serves to determine whether or not it is permissible to operate the equipment any longer. In our opinion, it is no less important to determine the residual working life. One way of doing this is to use models describing the physical processes that cause failure, one of which is few-cycle fatigue. Here we consider a method of determining the residual life of equipment under few-cycle loading. Calculations on few-cycle fatigue are made for steel equipment in the chemical, oil refining, and related branches of industry [GOST 25859-83 (Comecon Standard 3648-82)]. By loading cycle is meant sequence of load changes that ends with the original load.
