Optical test stand for measuring purposes of light guide properties of optical fibers

摘要

For a cost-effective application of optical fibers in translucent composite ma terials, it is necessary to explore alternative materials. Cost reduction is only possible if substitutes for glass or PMMA can be found. ITA has the possi bility of manufacturing commodity-polymer based monofilaments with in creased light-transmission capabilities due to water quenching of melt-spun fibers. Furthermore, the characteristics of these fibers will be analyzed. This paper will focus on optical properties and the way these measurements are carried out.
