CO_2 fixation employing an iridium(i)-hydroxide complex

The reactivity of a number of Ir~1 complexes towards CO_2 is explored using [Ir(NHC)(OH)] as a key synthon. CO_2 insertion into Ir-O and Ir-N bonds proved facile, yielding a number of Ir~1-carbonates and -carbamates. Most importantly, reaction between CO_2 and Ir~1-OH led to isolation of the novel [{Ir~1}_2-(μ-K~1:K~2-CO_3)] complex.
