摘要

If you are looking for a thorough conceptual discourse of knowledge organizing behavior, or how and why people organize knowledge, in various contexts, this is the book for you. As an expert in knowledge organization, the author certainly knows how to organize the topics about organizing knowledge well to present the beauty of the structure of the work. The book presents a thorough, broad, unique treatment of the topics about organizing knowledge from various perspectives, and is very readable. It is organized using three major threads: traditional, personal, and socially constructed structures for organizing knowledge. Traditional structures for organizing knowledge include structures used in libraries, such as MARC (Machine Readable Cataloging) records, subject headings, and classification schemes, as well as traditional structures from natural sciences and social sciences. Personal structures for organizing knowledge include structures developed by individuals in both home- and work-related contexts. Socially constructed structures for organizing knowledge include structures resulting from individual and collaborative uses of social bookmarking and social cataloging Web 2.0 sites, such as folksonomies and tag clouds. The three parts are divided into a total of nine chapters. Each chapter presents focus points, scope, definitions, conceptual and historical discourse of the topic, current research (if any), conclusion, and thought exercises for helping readers to review and relate the major concepts, theories, and practices discussed in that chapter.
