MAXWELL'S HANDBOOK FOR RDA: RESOURCE DESCRIPTION & ACCESS: EXPLAINING AND ILLUSTRATING RDA: RESOURCE DESCRIPTION AND ACCESS USING MARC 21

For the past 35 years, members of the Maxwell family have guided cataloging students and practitioners through the often labyrinthine standards of library cataloging practice. Margaret F. Maxwell wrote the original Handbook for AACR2: Explaining and Illustrating Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules Second Edition in 1980, shortly after the publication of Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Second Edition (AACR2) in 1978. She updated the Handbook for the 1988 revision of AACR2 and then co-authored with her son, Robert, the 1997 publication of Maxwell's Handbook for AACR2R: Explaining and Illustrating the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules and the 1993 Amendments. In 2004, Robert L. Maxwell is listed as the sole author of the fourth (and final) edition of the Handbook for AACR2 that includes the 2003 update to AACR2. The change from the longstanding AACR2 descriptive cataloging standard to the current standard Resource Description and Access (RDA) has necessitated a drastic change in content, as well as a change in title: Maxwell's Handbook for RDA: Resource Description & Access.
