Four years of difficult times for the aviation industry led to the postponement of much conversion activity that would otherwise have taken place. Expected programs were delayed, and order activity was minimal as carriers fought for survival. But with economic growth returning, and the dampening effects of terrorism, war, and disease largely over, pent-up demand has been released. Boeing has launched its long-awaited 747-400 Special Freighter program, as well as its 737-300/400SF program, and IAI/Bedek, Precision Conversions, and Alcoa-SIE are also are getting orders for their new or recently-begun non-OEM conversion programs.
