Gemalto Reports Falling Sales, Further Details Of Job Cuts

France-based Gemalto, the largest supplier of smart cards worldwide, reported second-quarter revenue fell by 6% to 397.8 million euros (US$522 million) on declining shipments of subscriber identity module cards for mobile phones and stagnant banking card sales. It was the fifthstraight quarter of revenue decreases, since the vendor started reporting combined results following the merger last year of Gemplus International and Axalto to form Gemalto. First-half revenue also fell by 6% at constant exchange rates to 759.9 million euros. Gemalto will report first-half earnings this month, but executives told financial analysts when it released its Q2 revenue figures July 26 to expect meager results on the profitand-loss statement.
