Mexico taps Banks To Help Deliver Prescription Drugs

Officials in Mexico faced a problem governments in most developing countries have to deal with sooner or later: How to deliver health care to their impoverished masses, many of whom live out in the hinterland. While many governments simply ignore the problem or rely on inefficient and corrupt delivery systems, Mexico and its Seguro Popular program has taken a different approach. Chief among the goals for the program was getting prescription drugs to the patients who need them. In response, the government and its vendors came up with the Tu Salud card, which stores prescriptions, loaded at doctors' offices, in partnership with some of the country's largest banks.
