摘要

As bandwidth for mobile phone networks grows, so do the fears of content providers that their music, games, video clips and other intellectual property will be ripped off. Mobile content will be a big business, according to such analysts as UK-based Ovum, which predicts content will generate nearly $35 billion in revenue by 2008. That would be three times the sales last year of such light fare as ring-tones and pictures used as screen-savers and "wall-papers." The content revenue estimates do not include charges to subscribers for actually downloading the multimedia files to their handsets. Mobile network operators will ring up sales from these per-item or in monthly transmission fees, and they also hope to grab a percentage—perhaps a large percentage—of the price subscribers pay for the content itself.
