SIM Toolkit: Complete Overhaul Due

The SIM toolkit has been a use-ful technology, adding operator-controlled menus to handsets, and encouraging customers to adopt new services and buy more content. But while handset development has continued apace, the SIM toolkit has remained stationary. It may still fill the occasional niche, but operators in developed markets need to look to technology developed this century to attract the next generation of customers, allowing the SIM to return to the network-identification role at which it excels. Elsewhere, the delayed deployment of advanced handsets may lend the SIM toolkit a lifeline, but it will only be a temporary reprieve.
