Vendors Target NFC Transit Market With SIMs

Gemalto, the largest supplier of SIM cards worldwide, and NXP Semiconductors, the biggest vendor of contactless chips for transit cards, are hoping to capitalize on early trends in the budding market for Near Field Communication-based services. The vendors have announced they are working together on SIM chips and cards that could store the popular Mifare fare-collection application, which is proprietary technology owned by NXP.
