To demonstrate the achievable accuracy of carrier phase-based GPS airborne positioning over large operational areas, results from an airborne GPS positioning test with a multi-receiver configuration are presented. In the test, four Trimble 4000 SSE receivers are used: two as monitoring stations and anothertwo on the aircraft. Several computational scenarios are used to assess the potential accuracy. Accuracy evaluation methods as well as the corresponding results are discussed and analyzed with respect to high-accuracy airborne positioning using a multi-receiver configuration. The results of these computations and analyses indicate that the accuracy of airborne carrier phase-based GPS positioning with monitor-remote separations in the range of 50 to 200 km is at the level of 10 cm using high-quality receivers and reliable ambiguity initialization.
