WHY I CAN'T GIVE UP MY CAR

I have spent all of my working life in the public transport industry, on buses, coaches and railways. I have been involved in almost every aspect from selling excursion tickets to driving road and rail vehicles and managing a thriving bus and coach operation. I have also been a bus enthusiast for as long as I can remember and, although I no longer work within the industry, I am as interested in it as I ever have been. I also own a preserved bus. So why is it that today was the first time I have been on a local service bus for over 10 years? I live in Poole and my local company is Wilts & Dorset, a highly professional company with a modern fleet. Its service from near my home to the town centre is every 20min and is generally operated by low-floor buses. If the buses are not low-floor they are modern. Occasionally a Bristol VRT may turn up ― no complaints from the enthusiast in me.
