STREETCAR TAKES TO THE STREETS OF YORK

FirstGroup's tram-styled prototype Wright Streetcar bus of the future went out on the streets of York on the first weekend of March, a few days before transport secretary Alistair Darling was due to officially unveil it at a high-profile indoor ceremony in London, Although York remains the most likely location to get the first production Streetcars, it wasn't used in public service on 5 and 6 March. It was taken there to shoot a promotional film of the moving vehicle with actors and extras substituting for fare-paying passengers. The articulated bus made innumerable round trips between the recently opened Monks Cross park-&-ride site and a roundabout outside the city centre to enable the production crew to capture the features that First hopes will win new customers on to its services.
