STAGECOACH PROPOSES LITTLE AND GUIDED LARGE TO COMBAT MANCHESTER TRAM PLANS

Stagecoach has countered Greater Manchester PTE's Local Transport Plan (LTP) with proposals for a range of bus-based initiatives using park-&-ride, optically guided articulated double-deckers and demand responsive feeder minibuses. Stagecoach says the LTP does little to promote imaginative bus-based schemes, other than the Leigh busway, which will primarily benefit FirstGroup, even though the PTE has singled out First's performance for criticism. The group placed full-page adverts in the Manchester Evening News entitled 'Manchester Deserves Better', which suggest that the PTE's plan has failed to deliver a transport strategy for the city.
