One of the more intriguing twists in the privatisation of the National Bus Company was revealed in our November and December 1987 issues. In November, we reported that NBC had recommended the sales of Southern National and North Devon to Endless Holdings, which already owned Shamrock & Rambler, and of East Midland, Lincolnshire Road Car and Midland Red North to Allied Bus Services. Both buyers were newcomers to the bus industry, but Endless had recruited veteran municipal manager Geoffrey Hilditch to provide it with some of the expertise it desired.
