Unite demands £30,000 a year for London bus drivers

Fifty years after the London bus system was crippled by one of the biggest and most damaging strikes in the 20th century, and cut back substantially afterwards, there are signs that this could be another difficult year for industrial relations. Unite, known until recently as the Transport & General Workers Union, announced on 4 March that it will pursue an ambitious claim for a standard pay rate for drivers working for all of the London bus companies and for that to be a minimum of £30,000 a year.
