As the letters pages of recent issues of Buses bear witness, there is a degree of controversy and doubt about the exact dimensions of a batch of nine AEC Regent III 9612Es delivered to the Great Northern Railway (Ireland) in 1953, numbered 299 to 307. Were these 66-seaters 27ft, 28ft or 30ft long? The consensus is that they were somewhere between 27ft and 30ft, but in the absence of firm proof we may never know. What we do know is that they followed 20 other Regent Ills, of which 10 9611s delivered in 1948 were 8ft wide 58-seaters with similar five-bay Park Royal-designed bodies to the buses of indeterminate length.
