It is about 08.30 and quite a cluster of people is waiting at a stop in Wimbledon Chase for the next bus to Wimbledon on either route 163 (Morden-Wimbledon) or 164 (Sutton-Wimbledon). It is the sort of small crowd of potential riders that would gladden the heart of many a provincial operator on any weekday. The difference is that this is a Sunday morning. It shows just how much extra traffic London's well-run and frequent bus services have developed. In this case, it also explains why the Sunday service on both routes was recently increased, 163s from four to five buses an hour and 164s from three to four.
