Buses On Stamps: An Israeli Issue

Postcards need stamps, which Howard J. Piltz collects. He also remembers the long running series on our pages by one Philaticus (now sadly deceased) on stamps and buses, which he is offering to revive on an occasional basis with appropriate examples from his collection. Howard collects transport-related stamps, be they mint (unused) stamps or sets of stamps, or on a first day cover or as part of a presentation pack that many post offices produce today. His first are these three from Israel, showing a Ford Model T, an American-built White and a British-built Leyland Royal Tiger. They formed a set issued in 1994 entitled 'Public Transportation in Israel/Egged Bus System' to celebrate the 60-year history of Egged, the country's largest operator, which today has over 3,100 buses and coaches, 1,000 routes and 6,200 employees, more than a third of whom are members of the employee-owned co-operative.
