SOUTHDOWN TODAY AND IN 1953

When I was young and used Ian Allan British Bus Fleets abc fleetlist books, two were key for I those of us in West Sussex -South East England (Kent coast to the Hampshire borders) and South Central (which carried on west and a fair bit north-west). When we discovered that some fleets, like Ribble and Bristol, had a book to themselves we were probably slightly miffed that the largest operator in our area, Southdown, did not. In 1971, just after the Ian Allan books peaked and started to wane, the Southdown Enthusiasts Club filled that gap.
