Bus rapid transit (BRT) has been a long time coming to the UK, and the delay inrnopening The Busway, the Cambridge-St Ives guided bus link, is but the latest minor hold-up to various plans mooted over the past 25 years.rnThe first section of a BRT network for Bristol looks likely to be built over the next few years, but as our March 1990 issue reminds us, even this was a plan in the making for a long time.rnWe reported then that Badgerline Holdings, the privatised former National Bus Company business growing into one of the component parts of FirstGroup, was in discussions about its possible future rninvolvement in operating the Metro light rail network that Advanced Transport for Avon (ATA) had been rnpromoting for Bristol since 1986.
