Smooth start for route 38 conversion to double-deck

The conversion of route 38 (Victoria-Clapton Pond) from articulated buses back to double-deckers on 14 November is the most significant so far. Initial observations show it has gone surprisingly well.rnWhile the first day - a Saturday - was marred by heavy rain,rnin its first week there were no surprise road works or traffic light failures. But the second, probably more typical week showed that any untoward problem quickly accumulates several buses together. Drivers seem to work hard and be prepared to overtake another - or even two - at a stop rather than lazily hangingrnback behind. And overtaking was rarely possible with artics.
