Optare's long promised integral double-decker appears to have returned to the back burner, with the manufacturer questioning whether the project can be profitable. In July, when it showed an Olympus-bodied prototype to the bus press, Optare said it intended to launch the Mercedes-Benz OM906-engined integral - with a radically restyled body - within 12months. Chassis frames would likely be built in strategic partner Ashok Leyland's Avia truck plant in Prague.
