Iceland to boost public transport funding

The Icelandic government intends to spend ISK1 billion (£5.4million) a year to reinforce public transport in the Reykjavik capital region in the next 10 years. The main goal is to break Icelanders' preference for cars and to double the use of public transport in the region. The initiative is not just about buses and includes all means of transport such as bicycles. In addition to the funds provided by the state, local authorities will also participate in the funding of the joint campaign.
