Citaro fuel-cell hybrids whirr into Hamburg

Hamburg Hochbahn, Germany's second largest municipal after Berlin, has taken delivery of two 12m Mercedes-Benz hydrogen fuel-cell hybrid buses as part of its long-term strategy to scarp diesels. They were due in service in September, with three more coming later this year in a 10-vehide order to replace first generation fuel-cell Citaros operated since 2003. It plans to add between 60 and 70 a year until its 750 diesel buses are phased out (Global News, March 2010).
