Delayed Italian trolleys at last ready to roll

Trolleybuses are finally set to take to the streets of the southern Italian city of Lecce in October, nearly six years after work began on an ambitious three-route system. Repeated delays caused by type approval and local government red tape prompted councillors last year to demand that the project be abandoned. They urged that the new overhead be dismantled and the stored fleet of eight Van Hool/ Vossloh-Kiepe low-floor A330T rigid trolleys be sold. The breakthrough came this summer after the transport ministry threatened to demand back €13million (£11.4million) so far spent on the system.
