The trade union representing Lothian Buses' drivers has made an outspoken attack on Edinburgh city councillors' decision on 2 September to save the city's controversial tram project by voting to operate the line into the centre of the Scottish capital. Originally envisaged as a cross-city line linking the airport with the northern shoreline suburb of Newhaven, and due to have opened this year, the project is running at least three years late and has been reduced to its western section between the airport and St Andrew Square, next to Edinburgh's long-distance bus and coach station.
