While we hear about the Southdown Enthusiasts Club's better known and perhaps more book-like publications such as the regularly-published fleetlists and histories already reviewed in these pages (another volume of the Fleet History is just out), we hear less often of a series that recently reached its 100th edition. In the early 1990s the SEC chairman, John Allpress, while, to quote him, 'ferreting through scrapbooks' began to reflect on the possibility of sharing such eclectic collections with a wider audience. Thus in 1994 was born SEC Miscellany and it is still going strong. Scrapbooks presumably exhausted, he took to taking himself off to the National Newspaper Library at Colindale for new sources of snippets and continues to put together these fascinating collections of Southdown-related memorabilia.
