McGill's defends SPT as it faces threat of abolition

Scotland's largest independent bus operator has risen to the defence of Strathdyde Partnership for Transport, which faces possible abolition in a public sector overhaul. The Scottish government is considering abolition of the regional transport partnership, which has undergone a major management restructure over the past 18months following revelations of inappropriate expenditure. One option may be to transfer its bus responsibilities to Transport Scotland, the Glasgow-based government agency that took over SPT's railway role on the winding up of Strathdyde PTE in 2006 and which also administers the national concessionary travel scheme for buses.
