Clayton Jones wins licence appeal

Welsh bus industry entrepreneur Clayton Jones is considering legal action against the traffic commissioner's office for loss of earnings, after a tribunal ruled that he would not lose his operator licence. After a public inquiry in April, Welsh traffic commissioner Nick Jones said Clayton Jones had lost his repute as a manager and would consequently lose his operating licence. His St David's Travel was allowed to continue operating until the outcome of an appeal to a tribunal in London. On 1 September, the tribunal ruled that Clayton Jones's repute was intact. Judge Mark Hinchliffe said the traffic commissioner had based his decision to revoke the licence partly on matters that were not relevant or carried little weight. 'We have found that, in a number of material respects, the traffic commissioner fell into error,' said the judge. 'We hold that the findings in relation to the operator's repute and the consequent revocation cannot stand.'
