Over the past decade, medium-sized quality independent operators have established themselves in areas where large bus groups have withdrawn services. In Oxfordshire, Wallingford-based Thames Travel started operations in 1998 with four buses and now runs 45 throughout south Oxfordshire, Reading and north Berkshire. Its most recent expansion last May saw it take over several services in Bracknell from First.
