Two ITAs to raise child fares

South Yorkshire and Greater Manchester Integrated Transport Authorities have voted to end freezes on subsidised child fares. South Yorkshire is raising the 40p flat fare to 50p on 1 April, the first rise since October 2003. It intends to raise it again to 60p in April 2012 and 70p a year later. It says there has been a 9% increase in child passengers to 18.5million since 2003.
