Giles Fearnley heads First UK Bus

First has surprised the industry by recruiting former Blazefield chairman Giles Fearnley (left) as its new UK Bus managing director. He took up the post on 1 February. His appointment ends a seven-month period when the UK Bus operation -which also includes small-scale businesses in Ireland and Germany - shared a managing director, Mary Grant, with the UK Rail division. Grant, who took on the additional role following the departure of previous UK Bus MD Nicola Shaw last July and had been UK Rail MD since May 2009, leaves First on 31 March. She is reported to have wanted to retain responsibility for the bus division.
