Passenger rights on the cards for coach travel

European Union legislation on passenger rights for longer distance bus and coach users has moved a step closer.The legislative proposal from the European Commission for a regime of passenger rights broadly similar to those given to air passengers - compensation for cancellations, provision of overnight accommodation when necessary, compensation for lost and damaged luggage, non-discrimination rights for passengers, in particular for persons with reduced mobility - had been blocked following strong differences between the European Parliament and member states.But both sides came to agreement in principle to a compromise text in a meeting of the conciliation committee - whose task is to seek compromise on blocked dossiers - on 30 November.
