Bravo for Brum but stick to your guns

First it was leeds with its trolleybus-based New Generation Transport proposal in place of a rejected tramway, and now Birmingham with its Sprint vision has embraced bus rapid transit (BRT) as its best chance of achieving a life changing improvement in public transport.This network of four cross-city high quality BRT lines is one of the most ambitious yet advanced for a major British city and deserves serious consideration by the coalition government. Not least because this administration, as our Inside Track columnist Andrew Braddock reminds us this month, subscribes to the idea of public transport playing a key part in achieving economic growth.
