German operation sold to Italian rail

Deutsche Bahn has sold Arriva's German operations to Italian state-run railway Trenitalia. The deal - to satisfy European Union competition concerns - was due to be approved by the DB supervisory board as Buses went to press. The sale price was not disclosed, but is likely to be well in excess of €300million (￡252million).Trenitalia joined forces with Luxembourg-based investment fund Cube to buy Arriva Germany, which employs around 3,500 staff and owns the Sippel bus group in Hesse state as well as extensive rail interests.
