Double trouble as Welsh bus grant cut

Operators and councils in Wales are hurriedly reviewing services after learning in mid-January that two grant schemes will be reduced drastically on 1 April. The scale of the cuts - a 25% fall in Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG) and a 27% reduction in Local Transport Services Grant for councils - took all recipients by surprise. Operators and the Welsh Local Government Association criticised the Welsh Government for providing less than three months' notice, compared with the 18 months' warning given to their English counterparts of a 20% BSOG reduction in April.
