Baker promises 'comprehensive package

Norman Baker, the transport minister responsible for bus policy in England, says the coalition government will publish a 'comprehensive and cohesive' package of measures to reform Bus Service Operators Grant and local bus competition in the UK's largest home nation. Speaking at the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) dinner on 26 January, he stressed that while the Department for Transport wants to improve the distribution of money for bus services, the reformed system must suit operators and local authorities. He added that the industry has his 'absolute assurance' that any changes will fit a key government objective of getting more people to use buses.
