Centro sets first BRT rout for West Midlands

Centra, the West Midlands PTE/ ITA, is developing an ￡1 1 million business case to create the first of a planned network of bus rapid transit (BRT) lines into and across Birmingham. It has selected Walsall-Five Ways as the first of four Sprint-branded BRT lines contained in the Vision for Movement 20-year plan published in 2010 in conjunction with Birmingham City Council, National Express Group and the city's business districts (Buses January 201 1). By backing BRT, Centro recognises that it can improve the public transport infrastructure more quickly than if it relies solely on trying to secure large-scale enlargement of the Wolverhampton-Snow Hill Metro tramway, which is being extended across the city centre to New Street with opening scheduled for 2015.
