X5 clearance trial for Elite ⅰ inter-decks

Stagecoach East undertook clearance trials in July with a Plaxton Elite i-bodied Volvo B1 1 RT Megabus inter-deck coach on its flagship X5 Oxford-Cambridge route. Managing director Andy Campbell says the trial was to assess the suitability of the vehicle type for the route in advance of bids being made for vehicle replacement in 2014/15. Currently 17 Volvo B9Rs with Plaxton Panther bodywork are based at Bedford depot for the X5. However, he says 15m inter-deck vehicles would require changes to the route through Buckingham and also have an impact at Oxford's Gloucester Green bus station.
