During the 1 930s and into the early months of World War 2 several major operators, as well as some much smaller ones, took delivery of double-deckers with forward-entrance bodies, but in the immediate postwar period the traditional open platform, rear entrance layout was the usual choice. There were some exceptions, with three operators - among them Blackpool Corporation - specifying centre-entrance bodies, but only two opted for double-deckers with forward entrance bodywork at this time; independents Barton Transport of Nottinghamshire and Birch Brothers of Kentish Town, north London.
