Your comment (December Buses) about doors on buses is timely when there is rightly an emphasis on improving performance by reducing dwell time at bus stops. What is the point of arguing for bus priorities if unduly long times are spent at bus stops often causing delays to other traffic? With the risk of being accused of child memory bias, having lived until the age of nine in 1 940s Bournemouth where every trolleybus and most buses had two doors and two staircases (the utility Guy Arabs being the main exception), my experience in successive management positions in Leicester, Plymouth and Ipswich led me to be convinced that for urban driver-only operation a dual-door pattern on both single- and double-deck buses had advantages.
