It seldom happens, but just occasionally a bus manufacturer turns out a design that ticks all the boxes. A vehicle that fulfils its simple task of moving passengers from A to B with the minimum of fuss, efficiently and without causing sleepless nights for fleet engineers. One that met all these criteria, from its first appearance in service in 1980 until transformation into a Volvo product in 1993, was Leyland's project B45: the Olympian double-decker. By then, 5,581 had been built.
