Edgley Cox and the Walsall wiring revival

Although neighbouring Wolverhampton began operating trolleybuses in October 1923 and was running to Willenhall by 1927, it took Walsall until 22 July 1931 to open its first trolleybus route to Willenhall. From 16 November 1931 to 31 October 1965, the trolleybuses of both these West Midlands municipalities plied the 29 route between their town centres, Walsall starting out with two AEC and two Guy six-wheel double-deckers. While its neighbour expanded its network vigorously, Walsall added another route (to Bloxwich with 15 Sunbeam double-deckers) in 1933 but nothing more for the next 20 years. There had been a plan to replace the Walsall-Wednesbury-Darlaston-Walsall circular motorbus route with trolleybuses but objections from Wednesbury Corporation put paid to this.
