Restart remedy for Rhondda Regent

The Cardiff Transport Preservation Group is helping restore a South Wales museum's 1961 Rhondda Transport AEC Regent V to working order. Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has stored 457 (457 KTG), with Metro-Cammell 70-seat body, in the open for the past eight years as one of the exhibits at the Rhondda Heritage Park in Trehafod, the former Lewis Merthyr coal mine. Stagecoach repainted it in 2006 as part of its centenary celebrations of Rhondda buses, held at the Heritage Park, but the park contacted the CTPG after experiencing problems getting the Regent to start and arranged for it to be towed to the group's facility, The Bus Depot in Barry. 'It seems on inspection it has suffered from the rigours outside storage including a fuel pump problem,' says CTPG chairman Mike Taylor. 'We now would hope that undercover storage will be arranged for the future to ensure the longevity of this important bus as a representative of the old Rhondda Transport.'
