Arriva orders 236 buses from all three UK manufacturers

Yorkshire Tiger's 11.7m Optare Versas form part of orders from Arriva worth £40million for 236 buses from the three UK bus manufacturers. The other 231 are coming from Alexander Dennis and Wrightbus, many of them with fuel saving technology that attracts additional Bus Service Operators Grant. Alexander Dennis will build 94 Enviro400 double-deckers and 40 Enviro200 midibuses, the latter with ZF automated manual transmission to deliver substantial reductions in fuel consumption. Wrightbus will supply 97 StreetLites with the Micro Hybrid technology already selected by FirstGroup for a large part of its 2014 order. This uses recovered braking energy to reduce fuel consumption. Seventy will be to the 11.5m Max length and 27 with shorter wheelbase. These orders form part of a larger 2014/15 intake, which also includes Wright-bodied Volvo double-deckers.
