Sixteen wartime Edinburgh Corporation Daimler CWA6 and CVVG5 double-deckers were rebodied with lightweight full-front Alexander 58-seat bodies, and the CWA6s gained Gardner 5LW engines; their fleet and registration numbers were unchanged as 62-70/2-8 (DWS 82/3, 420-2, 544-7, 929, EFS 128-33), and their initial use was on extended tram replacement service 31 (Corstorphine-Hyvots Bank). The first of the 100 Metro-Cammell Orion-bodied Leyland Titan PD2/20s ordered for tram replacement, 401 (LFS 401), arrived in June; their delivery was effected by one corporation driver flying to Birmingham each morning, then driving a bus back but spending only one night away from home.
